New Year, New Art

Its been nearly 2 years since I have posted anything. Lately, I have been writing and sketching daily in my journal, since I left the Star Wars Costuming community in 2017. These days I am more focused on my art and expression... and I got a lot to say. My pieces are very personal, and the meaning private, but maybe it speaks to you.

Adv Acrylics Classwork

So I've been taking a class in Advanced Acrylics. I've never really done still life, or even impressionist type work before, so I'm rather pleased with my results so far. I still have a lot to learn in regards to techniques. I think my year off of college, and doing my own  acrylic painting studies as well as visiting Seattle Art Museum (SAM) and studying master paintings, have prepared me for applying what I have observed. Anyways, here's what I got so far.

 Week 1: Still life using only colors and techniques of the Renaissance.
Acrylics on wood.

 Week 2: Impressionist type painting study, where we could use whatever colors we wanted.

 So I used black light acrylics for this piece.

Week 3: Paint a scene from somewhere in Seattle. This is the Puget Sound.

Ghost and Fett UV Painting Progress

Still a work in progress. But when I was mixing florescent and glow acrylics together for the the Pacman Ghost named Inky (the cyan one), I made way too much, and had to quickly find a way to salvage the mix because neon/UV active and glow acrylics are really expensive. Wasting it would break my heart... so I quickly found line art of Boba Fett, traced and transfered it to a new canvas, and began boxing in the highlights. I have many layers to go on this. Far from done.

Current UV Paint

I have been itching to do some traditional art for months now. Since finals are over, I can get back to experimenting with UV active paints and blacklights. Hopefully my airbrush kit will come in the mail, so I can further this new and exciting experimental expression (to me anyways.) But until I receive it, I will be working on these ghosts here.This is just one of the many projects I want to knock out during Spring Break.

Doldrums

My second piece which I call "Doldrums." (Yes that's the word of the day folks) It also glows in the dark. I unfortunately couldn't get my husband to help, but that's ok. I have this nifty thing called a tripod, and skills. Now all I need to do is let it dry, and then varnish it. Varnish by the way, costs more than paint and my canvas' which is rather irritating. However, I am learning a lot with each piece I create. I already have many other ideas to contribute to my series... here's to hoping I have enough space on my walls by the end of this, or I'm going to have to come up with another plan for storage.
